Mobile Dairy Classroom

The original farm-to-you program has continually operated in California since the 1930s.

About the Mobile Dairy Classroom

The Mobile Dairy Classroom is the original farm-to-school agricultural literacy program operating in California since the 1930s. With the aid of a working dairy cow, the assembly teaches how milk and dairy foods are produced and how they contribute to healthy eating. Attendees gain a greater awareness of the role of agriculture and a healthy diet.

We offer statewide options, but some areas in California are too far from the dairy farms we operate in to bring the Mobile Dairy Classroom. This is due to the accommodations we make for cow care and comfort, following recommendations from the California State Veterinarian. The experience is typically presented in two segments, and school events are designed for the entire school.

Events such as fairs, ag days and farmers' markets also have an opportunity to bring the experience to their communities. Please reach out to us (MDC@DairyCouncilofCA.org) with event specifics and we'll work with you to see if the event can be accommodated based on current demand and availability.

Assemblies are held in the morning and in an outdoor area that can accommodate a 35-foot truck and trailer combination. No electricity is needed and there is no fee for the assembly. Our instructors follow state guidelines to maintain the health and safety of your students and staff.

The Mobile Dairy Classroom is brought to you by Dairy Council of California. Funded by California’s dairy farm families and milk processors, Dairy Council of California is a nutrition organization overseen by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. It is the dairy community’s philanthropic contribution to community health, supporting nutrition education in school and community settings to help children and communities make healthier eating choices.
